Registering Your Card


Can I register with my existing Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Ltd Visa card or do I need to apply for a new one?


Yes, you can register with Verified by Visa using your existing Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Ltd Visa Debit card with your ATM PIN.


Can I register with more than one Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Ltd Visa card?


Yes, you can register one or all of your Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Ltd Visa Debit Cards starting with BINs 463795 (first six digits of the cards).


What do I do when I'm issued a new card?


If your new card is a renewal card (same number as the old one) you don't have to do anything to stay registered. If, however, your card number changes, you will need to re-register in the program with your new card number & details.


I have an Add-on card. Does the person who holds the Add-on card have to register their card separately or can we share a Verified by Visa Password?


We do not recommend sharing your Personal Password with anyone. The Add-on cardholder would have to register separately for Verified by Visa and create his/her own Personal Password. This increases the security of your Verified by Visa online purchases.


How do I register my Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Ltd Visa card?


You need to register for the service through the Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Ltd Website (www.tmb.in) at any time during online purchase.


What does my Verified By Visa Password have to be made up of?


Your Verified by Visa


a.   Password must be between 8 to 12 characters in length and alphanumeric


b.   Passwords should have at least 1 number and 1 alphabet.


c.   Password is case sensitive


d.   Password may contain special characters, except &<>\"%;()+\\?.


e.   Spaces are not allowed in between Password


f.    New password cannot be the same as that of your previous 3 password(s)


Can I register my non-Visa payment cards with Verified by Visa?


Currently, Verified by Visa is only offered to Visa card.


If I register two or more Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Ltd Cards, can I set the Verified by Visa Password to be the same for all the Cards I register?


When you register with Verified by Visa you will be asked to create a Personal Password only for the Card that you are registering. This password allows you to make online purchases from participating Verified by Visa merchants using only that particular card. It is up to you to use the same password for your other Cards as well. Keep in mind that while consolidating passwords may be more convenient, it can also be less secure. It is your responsibility to protect your Personal Password.


What steps should I take to ensure that my Verified by Visa Password is strong and difficult to guess?


You may practice due precautions and few of them are as under:-

Avoid using a Personal Password that is easy to guess, such as your name. Also avoid using a Password that you have already used elsewhere. Keep in mind that while consolidating passwords may be more convenient, it can also be less secure. It is your responsibility to protect your Password.

A secure Personal Password should be something that is easy for you to remember but difficult for anyone else to guess. Never write down your Password in a place that could be easily located. Never share your Password with others. You may even choose to change your Password periodically.


What is a Personal Message?


When you register for Verified by Visa, you may be asked to create a Personal Message. When you pay online, always look for this Personal Message to ensure that Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Ltd is authenticating you.


Can I set my Personal Message to be the same as my Verified by Visa Personal Password?


Your Personal Message and your Personal Password must not be the same, to ensure your security.

How will the online store know that I have Verified by Visa?


Participating online stores will automatically recognize your Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Ltd Visa card number if you have registered it for Verified by Visa.


Where will I be able to shop using Verified by Visa?


Look for the verified by VISA mark on participating online stores. You can shop at any online store that has the Verified by Visa symbol. Look for the Verified by Visa mark on participating online stores or check the list of current participants on your local Visa site. You will see the display of the Verified by Visa symbol on the website. Look for this logo when shopping online

According to Reserve Bank of India, all e-commerce merchants in India must implement this second level authentication by August 1, 2009. Verified by Visa is the service that merchants will be using for all Visa card transactions and hence you would be required to use your Verified by Visa Personal Password at all online merchants from August 1, 2009.


After I register, how long does it take for Verified by Visa to become active on my card?


The registration process is completely online and instantly completed. Your registration successful message is displayed at the end of the registration process and you can start using the facility to shop securely on the Internet straightaway. 


What will happen when I go to pay online?


When you finish shopping at a participating Verified by Visa merchant, proceed to the merchant's check-out page. After you enter your registered Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Ltd Card number and submit your purchase, your Verified by Visa 3D Secure payment window will appear. First, look for your Personal Message. Confirm that it is correct and then, enter your Password and choose Submit


Can I get the benefit of Verified by Visa security at online stores that are not participating in the service?


No. Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Ltd 3D-Secure Service is available at only Verified by Visa websites.


What happens if I shop at a Verified by Visa merchant website while I'm not registered for this feature?


You will be prompted for online registration for Verified by Visa by Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Ltd. You would need to authenticate yourself with your Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Ltd debit card number, ATM PIN and DOB details and then create your 3D Secure VbV password. You can choose your password to be used for Verified by Visa.

 Thereafter, you can continue shopping on the merchant website. It is mandatory for you to register for the service and use password for authentication of online transaction as per RBI guidelines w.e.f. 1st August 2009.


Once I sign up for Verified by Visa, will I enter my Password wherever I shop?


You'll enter your Verified by Visa Personal Password only when making an online purchase.


What happens if I cancel my Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Ltd Card and then get a new one with a different card number?


You will need to register the new Card for the Verified by Visa service.

 What if I forget my password or wish to change my password?

If you forget your password or wish to change your password, you may reset your password using "Forgot password" option in the login page of VBV or you may choose to visit bank website (www.tmb.in) to reach the same website.

Alternatively, you may change password while shopping by clicking on the forgot password link in the same website shown to make payment after the purchase.

The system prompts you to enter your debit card number, ATM PIN and Date of Birth and after validating the same proceed to permit you to change the password.

How do I change the mobile number/email address that I have selected for use with Verified by Visa correspondence?


Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Ltd Verified by Visa service uses the mobile number and e-mail address that you have updated with Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Ltd for all its communication. To make a change in the Verified by Visa e-mail or mobile number, you have to contact your account branch (where you are maintaining your account) in Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Ltd.


What happens if my Card is lost or stolen? Do I have to re-register with the Verified by Visa service when I receive a new Card?


To report your Card lost or stolen, call Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Ltd Customer Care or ATM Cell. Since you have registered your Card with Verified by Visa, you have reduced the chance for online fraud on your Card. You will be required to re-register your new Card number.


If I suspect someone has stolen my password or used it to make fraudulent purchases, what should I do?


If you also feel that your Card number has been compromised and may be used fraudulently, you should immediately contact Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Ltd Customer Care, ATMCELL or Any Branch by email or by phone at 91-44-26223106, 26223109 and report your card as lost or stolen.


Whom should I call if the goods I purchase using the Verified by Visa service do not arrive, are damaged, or are unsatisfactory?


Your first attempt to correct the problem should be to contact the merchant with whom you placed the order. Almost all online merchants have return policies and instructions posted on their web sites. Customer service phone numbers and email addresses are also easily accessible on the merchants’ site. Most online merchants will do their best to correct the problem in a timely manner. If the merchant fails to resolve the issue, you can dispute a transaction according to the terms and conditions of the card you used to make the purchase.
